Glucogard has been formulated to balance a deficiency in nutrients that frequently leads to an insulin resistance, to circulatory disorders and soft tissue injuries in the hoof. It is recommended to supplement the daily feed ration of horses susceptible to laminitis with Glucogard.
• supplementing an increased need for vital nutrients after laminitis
• in case of acute risk of laminitis
• matches the mineral feed requirements in case of a pure roughage die
• perfect addition to Equigard
Reducing the risk
Glucogard has been specifically designed to address the need s of horses suffering from the Equine Metabolic Syndrome or horses susceptible to laminitis. In this situation, it is important to increase the tissue’s responsiveness to insulin on the basis of a diet low in grain. According to the latest science findings, this considerably reduces the risk of laminitis.
The functional nutrients in Glucogard can provide valuable assistance in this respect. The sugar and insulin metabolism depends on B-vitamins and minerals such as magnesium, zinc, manganese and trivalent chromium. Cell-protective vital nutrients such as vitamin E and selenium contribute to the insulin molecule’s integrity and protect the hoof corium against inflammation, additionally assisted by nutrients derived from brewer’s yeast and special fodder herbs which support the insulin with the blood sugar control. Glucogard contains all mentioned active agents in biologically active form, including chromium as component of the brewer’s yeast and supplemented herbs.
Protecting the hoof complex
Circulatory disorders in the hoof complex are known to encourage the development of laminitis, accompanied by decomposition of lamellar horn and corium structures and powered by inflammatory activities. Thus functional nutrients have to fulfil an important task as they have to ensure a sufficient blood circulation and to control the inflammatory process. Deficiencies in supplementing these active agents in sufficient quantities with the food can lead to a weakened immune system and promote the development of laminitis.
Glucogard has been specifically formulated to provide the adequate natural antioxidants and plant-derived protective nutrients to counteract these deficiencies. This is how Glucogard contributes to overall hoof quality and health.
Brewer‘s yeast 40%, herbs (milk thistle, blueberry foliar, shepherd‘s purse, buckwheat herb, marjoram, fenugreek, anise, fennel) 28%, linseed and sunflower oil cold pressed 6%, malt-yeast-mixture, ginger, carnitine, cinnamon, salt, garlic, magnesium acetate, magnesium fumarate, calcium carbonate (maritime and mineral), artichoke, sea algae flour, honey
(e.g. as a supplement to Equigard or roughage rations)
During acute laminitis: 50 g per 100 kg body weight per day; where required, mix with water and administer orally with a syringe.
When laminitis has been overcome: 18-20 g per 100 kg body weight per day until the target weight has been reached, or permanently, if insulin function is impaired.
To support metabolism and hooves in horses prone to laminitis, during seasons, weather and other situations (grazing) with a high risk of laminitis: 18-20 g per 100 kg body weight per day, e.g. for 4-8 weeks. 1 measuring cup = 120 g
Feeding advice: For permanent sole feeding we recommend supplementing with SemperMin or SemperCube.
