Roughage - the cornerstone of full-fledged feeding
Aromatic roughage of the best quality is not only a delight for horses, but the basis for health and wellbeing. Good roughage quality cares for the intestines and optimizes metabolic processes and the immune system. Roughage is considered to form bases, has deacidifying properties and thus also serves to regenerate the muscles and joints.
Feeding recommendation:
As an alternative to basic feed: 1.2-1.5 kg per 100 kg body weight and day.
To upgrade the basic feed ration: adjust the amount to the basic forage supply.
1 kg of Heucobs replaces 1 kg of hay. Feed larger amounts slowly. Soak 1 kg of haycobs with 1.5-3 liters of water.
Maximum 2 kg (dry weight) per meal - always soak.
1 liter corresponds to approx. 630 g
In order to cover the necessary roughage requirements for horses with teeth or chewing problems, approx. 1.2-1.5 kg per 100 kg body weight of haycobs should be fed daily, this can counteract weight loss. Heucobs are suitable as an alternative to roughage or for upgrading hay or haylage and as a forage substitute for horses that are supposed to get little or no grain. In large horses, positive effects on digestion and nutritional status can be determined from as little as 2 kg per day.
